Leyland Model Railway Club began life back in 1986 with a group of like minded people meeting in each others houses.
By 1988 the club had premises on Worden Lane in Leyland and a membership of 30+.
The Premises on Worden Lane was quickly becoming too small to house both members and layouts, new premises where found in the old Leyland Motors computer rooms, then part of Ainscough Cranes empire. Membership had its ups and down, helped along by the peppercorn rent being charged by our landlords. As with most good things they come to an end and the building was earmarked for demolition. We needed to find a new home and relitively fast.
Our present location was found and we spent most club nights and a few weekends moving our club layouts as well as our library of books and videos.
We are now very much settled in at Hillthorpe Farm, where you can find us most Mondays (not Bank Holidays) & Wednesday evenings from 19.00-22.00 (7pm-10pm) when you will be made welcome with a brew, plenty of good banter and a tour of our club layouts , you never know there may even be a biscuits well.
We allow you to have three visits after which we asked you to make a decision as to taking up membership or not. We range in ages at present from 17 – 80+ and currently have 20 or so active members.
So if your stuck for ideas on your own layout or not sure about wiring etc. Pay us a visit, enjoy a brew and hopefully find the answers you need.
Club nights are Mondays & Wednesdays 1900 -2200 (7PM – 10PM )
